School Based Traineeships Information for Students
A traineeship can enable you to gain valuable work experience and get paid while you learn. You will also get a qualification that is recognised across Australia. A School Based Traineeship can take up to 12 months to complete. You will need to work a minimum of 8 hours per week on average in the work place. You will also need to complete your off-the-job training with Ignite Education – this can include on campus or online. It is up to you.

What does a School Based Traineeship entail?
First you must hand in your resume to your Careers Officer at school who will then send it to us at Ignite Education. We will then call you for an interview to determine what place of business would suit you.
You will be placed in a café/bar/restaurant/club for a period of 10-12 months. You will complete 50 days (minimum) in this time, approximately 8 hours a week. These hours can be during the school week or at a weekend or both. You will be paid an award wage.
The Hospitality Industry is a vast and exciting world. There is never a dull moment and the opportunities are endless. You can travel to destination all over the world working in Hotels, Functions, Cruise Ships, Bars, Cafes, Restaurants…..see the world whilst getting paid.
Business Administration prepares you for a future role as an Accounts Receivable Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk, Data Entry Operator, Junior Personal Assistant, Receptionist, Office Administration Assistant, Office Administrator and Word Processing Operator.
Most students who finish their School Based Traineeship are highly likely to keep the job they are in. So whilst you are at school you will have constant income and an accreditation at the end of it to open doors to this wonderful world. The School Based Traineeship also goes towards your QCE points. What obligations will you have as an employer?
If you employ a trainee, your obligations will include:
Provide on the job training in a supportive environment
Ensure your trainee is adequately supervised by a qualified person
Provide 50 days of paid employment each year for the trainee
Pay wages and provide entitlements as per your relevant industry award
Update the training record book at regular intervals through the traineeship
